The idea for the site stemmed from the early beginnings of their design company when Leah, a stay at home mother of two started looking for ways to utilize her web design skills and help bring in some extra income for the family. Leah started out by designing websites in trade for locally made and grown items such as soaps, veggies, yarns, meat, and even goats and rabbits.
As her web design business grew Leah began to realize that it would be valuable if there was a place online where small farms and businesses could get found online – without the headache and costs of going through a large design or marketing firm With encouragement from her husband as well as friends and family, Make It Minnesota was pieced together and launched December 1st, 2010.
